Survivor Story: Bob Montgomery

Posted by Pete Visintin on

Written & Contributed by Kimberly Stiltner

I'd like to take some time to introduce you to my uncle, Bob Montgomery and tell you his story...

Aside from being the owner of Montgomery & Sons out of Brighton, IL, he is also a husband (Donna), a father (Jonathon and Josh), a son, a brother, an uncle, and a friend.  Now he's also a cancer patient.

Bob was diagnosed with Stage 3 Esophageal Cancer in March, 2016.  He began chemotherapy and radiation treatments right away and the doctors were hopeful that they would be able to surgically remove the cancerous tumors.  Unfortunately, cancer has its own agenda and quit responding to the treatments.

This meant that surgery was no longer a viable option.  He then began to undergo more intensive chemotherapy treatments.  After a few weeks of multiple treatments each week, Bob returned for another PET scan.  The news wasn't good.

The chemotherapy wasn't working, and the cancer had spread.  The doctors along with Bob and his family began to discuss the option of experimental Immunotherapy treatments in hope of slowing the cancer's growth rate.

They are currently awaiting the results of a recent CT scan and blood panels to see if the cancer has continued to spread.  This is obviously a very difficult time for the Montgomery family and anyone who has the pleasure of knowing them.

Cancer doesn't care who you are, how hard you work, or how many people care about you.  It doesn't discriminate, and it doesn't recoil.  What it does do is remind us to cherish the time we have with our loved ones and to take every chance we get to let our families and friends know that we care.

Please help us remind Bob, Donna, Jonathon, and Josh that we care and that we, as their family, friends, and community are here to offer support in any way we can!

More than 50% of the proceeds from all Fight the Fight purchases made between October 24th, 2016 and November 15th, 2016 will be donated to Bob to help cover the cost of medical expenses.
