Survivor Story: Melba Jordan

Melba is a housekeeper for a motel, and all of a sudden in the first part of October she started complaining of pain in her left side, became hoarse, and developed a cough.

She has no insurance, and after lots of persuasion she went to the emergency room at Salem (MO) Hospital where they did a chest x-ray and found a mass.  Next, they did a chest CT Scan and told her she needed a primary care physician.

After visiting a family care physician he sent her to have a PET Scan done, and it showed lung cancer with lymph node involvement.

From there Dr. Jas got her in to see a Pulmonologist, and I (Annie) took her to Sullivan, Missouri to see Dr. Daud where he told her she needed to have lung biopsy done at Missouri Baptist Hospital.

On October 27 (2017) I took her back to Missouri Baptist Hospital to find out the results of the biopsy.  Dr. Daud came out and said it was Stage 3 Lung Cancer with several lymph nodes in the chest involved, but the cancer had not spread.

He said he would set her up with an Oncologist in Rolla, MO.  So on November 1st she has an appointment in Rolla Missouri which is half an hour from us with the Oncologist, Dr. Ollie.

She will find out then what course of treatment they will do.  I have known Melba for three years, and she is a hard worker who is in for the fight of her life and could use help.

We are all trying to help her as much as we can!
