In July 2018, Sara Randle found out that she had breast cancer. She started chemo once a week at Siteman Cancer Center.
During this time, her husband James became ill with breathing problems. He was taken to Springfield Hospital where they diagnosed him as having a severe heart problem and his kidneys began to lose their functioning.
Springfield was not equipped to do the further testing that needed to be done, but they felt there was a team of doctors in Chicago that could help James.
He was then transferred to Chicago on October 23, 2018 and the diagnoses was that he needed a heart transplant.
James is in Chicago waiting for the transplant. During this time, he developed an infection and had to have a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) to keep his blood pumping until he receives the heart transplant.
He must have the LVAD for 6 months before being placed on the transplant list. He will have to go through months of physical therapy to regain strength.
And Sara has still had to travel back to St. Louis from Chicago for her chemo. Sara is done with chemo but is now undergoing radiation in Chicago so she can be with James.
Since James received the LVAD his health has improved, and they will hopefully be able to come back to Litchfield in March 2019.
These two have taken on their battles together and are inspiring individuals!
More the 50% of the proceeds from all Fight the Fight purchased made during the month of July 2019 will be donated to Sara & James to help cover the costs of medical-related expenses.
